About Us
The Black Examiner is an independent Ugandan digital news publication committed to delivering accurate, timely, and impactful journalism for Ugandans at home and in the diaspora. We exist to hold power to account, amplify voices that go unheard, and make sense of the stories that shape our lives every day.
We believe that good journalism is not a luxury β it is essential. In a media environment crowded with noise, misinformation, and sensationalism, The Black Examiner stands apart by doing the work: verifying before publishing, reporting without fear or favour, and always putting the public interest first.
From Kampala to every corner of Uganda, from African affairs to global developments that touch Ugandan lives β we cover what matters, with the clarity and integrity that our readers deserve.
Our Mission
Our mission is simple: to unfold the truth. We pursue factual, fair, and fearless reporting that empowers citizens with the information they need to participate fully in civic life. We are guided by the belief that an informed public is the foundation of a just and functional society.
We are not driven by political agendas, advertiser pressures, or clickbait. We are driven by the story β and by our responsibility to get it right.
What We Stand For
Accuracy Above All
We verify thoroughly before we publish. A correction is always better than a falsehood. Our credibility is our most valuable asset β and we protect it fiercely.
Independence
We are beholden to no political party, no government, and no corporate interest. Our editorial decisions are made solely on journalistic merit and public interest.
Fairness & Balance
Every story has more than one side. We seek all relevant perspectives before forming a narrative β and we give subjects a right of response.
Accountability Journalism
We shine a light on institutions, officials, and systems that affect ordinary Ugandans. Where there is injustice, we report it without hesitation.
What We Cover
The Black Examiner publishes daily across five core beats, giving readers a comprehensive picture of Uganda and the wider world.

Our Editorial Principles
No story is published without independent verification of core facts. We do not rely on single sources for significant claims, and we make clear when information is still developing.
Being first matters β but being right matters more. We will always sacrifice speed for accuracy. We would rather be second with the truth than first with an error.
When we make mistakes, we correct them promptly and transparently. We do not alter published articles without clearly noting what changed, why, and when.
We do not publish content that incites hatred, discrimination, or violence against any individual or group on the basis of ethnicity, religion, gender, or any other characteristic.
We protect the identities of confidential sources who come to us in good faith with information in the public interest. We take this obligation seriously and absolutely.
